Carteret County’s Health Department has received an $8,000 Dr. Ann Wolfe Mini Grant for Child Health and Infant Mortality, its first award from the program. The county says the funding will expand its child passenger safety program and help more families access properly fitted car seats.

What the grant supports

  • Purchase and distribution of 130 child safety seats for infants, toddlers and older children referred through WIC, social services, health care providers and community partners.
  • Training for one health educator at the 2027 Safe Kids Conference.
  • Recertification fees for two certified child passenger safety technicians, preserving local access to installation guidance.

The grant comes from the North Carolina Public Health Association. The department says it will combine seat distribution with education on correct installation and use.

Why it matters locally

Car seats and booster seats are a practical safety resource for families, but choosing and installing the right seat can be difficult. The county program is designed to connect families referred by local service providers with both equipment and expert help.
